Roman Mints was born in 1976 in Moscow and began playing the violin at the age of five. In 1994 Roman won a Foundation Scholarship to the Royal College of Music in London and also studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, winning prizes at each. His teachers were L. Svetlova, N. Fikhtengoltz and F. Andrievsky.
He frequently appears in the UK and abroad and has participated in festivals in the Ukraine, Russia, Bulgaria, Germany, Bath, Cheltenham, Aldeburgh, Lochenhaus, Sigulda and others. He has appeared with orchestras including the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Russian Philharmonia and Prague Soloists and has made numerous recordings for radio and television. In Summer 2008, after an invitation from Gidon Kremer, Roman led Grammy-winning Kremerata Baltica Orchestra for perofrmances in Sigulda and Lochenhaus festivals.
Roman has given Russian premieres of works by Poulenc, Desyatnikov, Golijov, Tavener, MacMillan, Scelci and Mozetich and has also given world premieres of over thirty works by
Langer, Vassiliev,
Bennett,
Tabakova, Desyatnikov, Burrell, Miyachi, Dudell, Finissy,
Irvine and others.In 1998 Roman Mints and oboist Dmitry Bulgakov founded
Homecoming Chamber Music Festival in Moscow which gained a wide recognition and following in Russia. In April 2002 Roman co-directed the Suppressed Music project in Russia, which comprised two concerts and a conference on composers whose musc had been suppressed. A book and cd were issued by "Klassika XXI" Publishing House.
Roman's collaborators include conductors Andrew Davis, Saulius Sondeckis, Vladimir Ziva, Vladimir Ponkin; violinist Gidon Kremer, flautist Sharon Bezaly, oboists Dmitri Bulgakov and Nicholas Daniel; pianists Katya Apekisheva, Alexander Kobrin, Charles Owen, Jose Gallardo, Evelyn Chang; cellists Boris Andrianov and Tatiana Vassilieva; singers Gwyneth Ann Jeffers and Anna Dennis and others.

Transformations with Evgenia Chudinovich on the piano, released by Black Box in 1999 ,
Game Over released in 2004 and
Mozetich/Langer/Schnittke Concertos released on
Quartz. By invitation frim the legendary free jazz improviser
Paul Dunmal Roman and Paul recorded a duo album "Exodus", due to be released in July 2008. He made his South Bank debut in January 2000. Together with the cellist
Kristine Blaumane and violist
Maxim Rysanov, Roman established the
ASCH Trio which tours extensively in UK and abroad including performances at the Wigmore Hall and The Purcell Room. Roman was a founding member of the
dB Ensemble, an experimental group which combines electronic music with live instruments and visual installations. He has been performing with Brian Irvine award-winning ensemble since 2004.
